The online proceedings of the 5th Central European Conference in Regional Science.

The CERS conference is organized bi-annually by the Technical University of Košice, University of Economics in Bratislava, the Slovak Section and German Speaking Section of the European Regional Science Association. The conference participants have focused on the latest achievements in regional science, looking for solutions and alternatives for the development of regions, with a special focus on Central Europe. Significantly different history and conditions make rathers difficult to directly compare cities or regions. Their variability is motivating, but at the same time challenging in terms of looking for particular innovations in regional and urban policies.

The themes of the conference CERS 2014 have been proposed according to present trends in the European regional policy, but markedly focused on recent developments in the urban and city development, highlighting the hosting city of Košice and the project of European Capital of Culture 2013:

• Impacts of cultural and sports events on development of cities and regions

• The future of financing regional development

• SMART cities – energetic solutions for the future

• Architectural and urban changes in Eastern European countries

Central European Conference in Regional Science is well known for a high quality of key-note speakers, excellent networking opportunities for the participants, as well as for multidimensional and interdisciplinary approaches.  A friendly atmosphere iss vivid also because of high participation of young scientist and their reseqarch competition.
